Gallery Kypriaki Gonia 12th July – 12th September 2007 Comments at her new work by Dr. Nadia Anaxagorou. “Yiota Ioannidou’s linear energy, set, in her previous work, in search of energy pulse of passion and despair, is infused, impetuous and unrestrained, into an abstract drawing of gulls, gushing out of a background of red, warm gradations of mental and physical deconstruction. They refold their wings and open up to the refreshing, cold, blue shades of the sky, sailing around and penetrating into the eternal womb, the sea, following the incessant flow and the rhythmic fast-pace tempo of aquatic creatures, alluding, thus, to conception, the very beginning of life, in an attempt to redefine existence. Through their plunge, these sea-birds are transformed into steel structures that capture the triple, multiform nature of water, liquid, solid and airy. Having terminated their lonely journey, they get together in a site-specific installation, arraying themselves into a swarm, whose circular and vertical flight is heading from an ethereal to an earthly voyage, in sandy shores and stony coasts. In a liberating, introspective dive, in the fathomless, transparent, crystal clear ocean bed, which turns into a mirror, reproducing an infinity of flutters, reflecting streams of memories, dreams and thoughts, drowning in its darkest depths painful shadows of the past, offering a purifying catharsis and a burial to our little, everyday deathsâ€. Yiota Ioannidou was born in Pafos in 1971. During 1989-1994 she studied in Athens University of Fine Arts. Panayiotis Tetsis and Rena Papaspyrou were among her teachers. She exhibited her work in many solo and group exhibitions. _____________________________ Gallery Kypriaki Gonia 45 Stadiou Street Larnaka, CY 6020 Cyprus TEL : +357 24 621109 kypriaki.gonia@cytanet.com.cy www.gallerykypriakigonia.com.cy |
