6th of December 2006 at 7pm, 1st floor of the commercial Galeria at the European Trade Center, Tirana

The AMC Contemporary Art Prize is conceived and organized by the TICA -Tirana Institute of Contemporary Art, with the support of the General Sponsor: the mobile telephone company AMC, and the help of the commercial centre, Galeria and the Institute of Tirana Biennale.

First launched in connection to the 3rd edition of the Tirana Biennale in 2005, this event aims at supporting and bringing to attention contemporary artists living and working in Albania. Seven short-listed artists will exhibit their work and an international jury will award the prize.

The exhibition will offer a multiplicity of contemporary art expressions including video, photography, painting, installation, sculpture, performance and text. Based on an extensive research, the AMC Contemporary Art Prize will also function as a tool in mapping the Albanian contemporary art scene, forging new relations between artists and audiences as well as encouraging discussions on new developments. The event also testifies to an increased social responsibility that the General Sponsor, the AMC Company, is taking here.

After an intensive research, mainly in the form of studio and gallery visits, meetings with artists and research through publication and portfolio materials, the TICA Project Leaders has short-listed the following artists for the AMC Contemporary Art Prize 2006: Enisa Cenaliaj, Leonard Qylafi, Adela Demetja, Nikolin Bujari, Syabhit Shkreli, Fatmir Juka and Sidi Kanani. TICA will also present a new project by last year’s winner of the AMC Contemporary Art Prize; Suela Qoshja, as well as works by two promising young artists, Elda Gjikondi and Ermelinda Agalliu, with the aim to encourage a pursuing of their careers.

The AMC Contemporary Art Prize will be awarded by an international jury, this year composed of: Maria Lind, Director of IASPIS (International Artist Studio Program), Stockholm; Adrian Paci, International Artist and Guest Professor at IUAV Academy in Venice; and Ivet Curlin, member of the curatorial team WHW from Zagreb.

The AMC Contemporary Art Prize is made possible through the sponsorship of the General Sponsor, AMC, as well as the support of Commercial Centre, Galeria. TICA’s program is supported by our Program Partner, European Cultural Foundation as well as with the support of the Institute of Tirana Biennale and “Moving Culture” NGO.
