TENORI are rising stars in the opera world. Trained at the UK's top institutions and highly successful performers in their own right, they have come together to form , the UK's most successful 3 tenors ensemble. Just a few venues they have performed at include English National Opera, Covent Garden, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, Scottish Opera, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, London Royal Festival Hall and The Royal Albert Hall. Having recently performed a highly successful tour of the NW of UK and France to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK, are now delighting audiences all over europe at corporate events, weddings, galas, recitals and educational institutions. For more information visit: www.tenori.net PERFORMER PROFILES: Alexander Grove, James Edwards and Mark Chaundy Alexander Grove is a former chorister of St Paul’s Cathedral and a postgraduate of the RNCM. He has also studied with Sten Sjostedt in Sweden and Nicolai Gedda in Switzerland. Recent operatic roles include Telemachus Il ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria, Hippolyte Hippolyte et Aricie, Nelson The Sailor’s Tale (Bawden, world première; Yorke Trust), Bajazet Tamerlano, Chekalinsky Queen of Spades under David Lloyd-Jones, Peter Quint Turn of the Screw (RNCM) for which he received nationwide critical acclaim, Eisenstein and Alfred Die Fledermaus (Clonter Opera), Charlie Mahagonny Songspiel (Opera Group), Prince Florian in the world première of Barbara Pym’s The Magic Diamond, Remendado Carmen (Stowe Opera), Borsa Rigoletto (Mid Wales Opera) and more recently Fenton Merry Wives of Windsor (Cumbria Opera) and Harlequin The Emperor of Atlantis (Upfront Opera). Other notable roles include Harlequin The Emperor of Atlantis with the Hallé Orchestra and directed by John Abulafia for the inaugural opening of the Imperial War Museum North. Notable oratorio performances include Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle under David Lloyd-Jones and Handel’s Messiah, the world première of Joubert’s A Song for St. Stephen and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony under Simon Halsey and the CBSO. Notable recitals include a private performance for President Bush Snr at the White House, singing with Jose Carreras under Sir George Solti at the Royal Festival Hall, London, performances with Sir David Willcocks and the LSO, and Berlioz’s L’Enfance du Christ under Kent Negano at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester. Awards include the Anne Ziegler Award, the Alfred Alexander Award and a Peter Moores Foundation Major Scholarship. Theatre and Musical Theatre credits include Orestes The Flies (RNCM), Reverend Hale The Crucible, Roy Away, Ephraim Smooth Wild Oats, Sky Masterson, Guys and Dolls, Charlie Clarke Captain Stirruck (BSC) and Rapunzel’s Prince Into the Woods (RNCM). Original recordings include George Lucas and Steven Spielberg’s The Land Before Time recorded at Abbey Road Studios, and the world premiere recording of Bawden’s The Sailor’s Tale in which he created the role of Nelson released in Sept 2004 on NMC Records. James Edwards was born in Essex and began singing as a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral, later continuing his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. On the concert platform he works frequently with orchestras including London Sinfonietta, The London Mozart Players, The English Sinfonia, LSO and RPO: conductors include Sir Edward Downes, Bruno Campanella, Mark Elder, Sir Charles Mackerras and Antonio Pappano. On the opera stage he has worked with directors including Elijah Moshinsky, Richard Jones, David Pountney, Jonathan Miller, Phyllida Lloyd, Moshe Leiser, Patrice Caurier and Robert Wilson. His operatic roles include Alfredo La traviata, El Dancaïro Carmen for European Chamber Opera; Alfred Die Fledermaus, Ralph Rackstraw HMS Pinafore for Kentish Opera, Rodolfo La bohème for Surrey Opera and Ferrando Così fan tutte for Opera à la carte. James made his Royal Opera, Covent Garden debut as an Apprentice Die Meistersinger von Nuremberg in 2002 later joining the Young Artists Programme. Whilst on contract at the Royal Opera House, James sang Messenger Aida, Teacher Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Ruiz Il trovatore, Nicolios The Greek Passion, Gobin La rondine, Pong Turandot, Gastone La traviata, Albazar Il turco in Italia and Roderigo Otello. He also covered Arturo Lucia di Lammermoor, Nathanael Les contes d’Hoffmann, Cassio Otello and Ernesto Don Pasquale. Future plans include Novice Billy Budd and First Commissioner The Carmelites for English National Opera, Lenski Eugene Onegin for Opera by Definition and Pinkerton Madama Butterfly for Raymond Gubbay Productions at the Royal Albert Hall. James frequently works with the World's leading singers on vocal technique and interpretation. He would like to express his thanks to the following people for their continuing support and guidance: Robert Lloyd, Alessandro Corbelli, Marco Berti, Jose Cura, Dennis O'Neil, Nancy Gustafson and Audrey Stottler Mark Chaundy sang as a chorister in the Choir of St.David's Cathedral, Cardiff, while studying piano and organ. He later won an award through the South Glamorgan Youth Choir, which funded singing lessons at the Welsh College of Music and Drama, before gaining a Choral Scholarship to Magdalen College, Oxford. In 1999 he took up a place at the Royal College of Music, where he was supported by The Countess of Munster and the Arts Council of Wales; he studied with Neil Mackie and Ryland Davies. In 2001 he was a fellow at Tanglewood where he worked with Phyllis Curtain. He now learns with Joy Mammen. Concert appearances include; Bach 'St.John Passion' with Peter Schreier; the Wallace Collection at the Wigmore Hall; Kurt Weill 'Seven Deadly Sins' with Cleo Laine; and concerts with the London Mozart Players. Recital highlights include: a Britten programme with Roger Vignoles; working with Ned Rorem on a perfomance of his songs at Tanglewood; and a fundraising concert with Dame Felicity Lott. He has won a National Federation of Music Societies Award. Recent performances include Mendelssohn 'Elijah'; Rossini 'Petite Messe Solennelle'; Janacek 'Psalmus Hungaricus'; and a tour with Essential Scottish Opera and Handel 'Bajazet' Tamerlano for the Cambridge Handel Opera Group. He was a member of the chorus at Glyndebourne Festival and went on to perform First Trojan Man in 'Idomeneo' and Guiseppe 'La Traviata' for Glyndebourne on Tour. Most recently Mark was an associate Artist with Welsh National Opera, supported by the Chris Ball bursary; he understudied Lenski 'Eugene Onegin', Kudrjas 'Kata Kabanova', Scaramuccio 'Ariadne auf Naxos' and performed Roderigo ' Othello' in WNO's opening gala at the Millenium Centre under Carlo Rizzi. Future plans include returning to Treviso to for further study with Dennis O'Neill, a recital at St.David's Hall Cardiff, Mozart 'Requiem' Kings College, Cambridge, Brubeck 'La Fiesta de la Posada' Barbican Hall, a tour of concerts with Scottish Opera and Don Ottavio 'Don Giovanni' Venice, Treviso Teatro Communale. He currently lives in Stoke Newington with an old piano, lots of books and two goldfish. |
