08.03.2009 - 10.05.2009 Curator Pavla Pečinková has prepared a retrospective exhibit commemorating the twentieth anniversary of the death of painter, sculptor and graphic artist Stanislav Judl (1951 Pilsen-1989 Prague). Judl, whose work focused on existential and introspective themes, was an important part of the alternative art scene of the 1980s, and his intellectual seriousness was an exception for the time. He made his debut at the start of Normalization, when opportunities for public engagement were at their lowest, and died in early 1989, when misgivings regarding the meaning of life led him to the very limits of doubt, climaxing in his final life crisis. He thus no longer could take part in the dramatic events of the post-1989 era, when his peers managed to establish themselves, and thus remained forgotten. He was first included among important Czech artists from the 1980s by the samizdat anthology Šedá cihla (Gray Brick, 1985), where he and Václav Stratil, Ivan Kafka, Naďa Rawová, Vladimír Merta and Margita Titlová represented the youngest generation of artists. An extensive monograph of his work will be published in 2009. ________________________________ Galerie Klatovy / Klenová Klenová 1 340 21 Janovice nad Úhlavou (00420) 376 392 208 (00420) 602 489 097 info@gkk.cz www.gkk.cz |
