Skin Language. Tattoo - Origins, Development and Contemporary Trends

Museum night 2009, Novi Sad Through the exhibition, documentary film and the following program, visitors will have an unique opportunity to see the most representative examples of skin decorations. The story begins in New Zealand in the 17th century, with the marvelous works on the tribal chiefs' faces done in the traditional 'vhakairo' carving technique, continues in the 18th centruy in Japan with 'Irezumi' made by the silk motifs, briefly moves to Africa, and ends in Europe to follow the further development of tattoo techniques and motifs. In addition to the photos, texts and replicas, there will also be a short documentary film. Following program contribute to the full impression of this unique travel through time and space prepared by the National Museum Uzice in cooperation with the Basement Gallery and the Association for Visual Art and Culture VISART.
