Vaughan Williams after Shakespeare ENO proudly reaffirms its commitment to celebrating English opera with a delightful new production of Vaughan Williams’s rarely seen Sir John in Love – based on Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor. Vaughan Williams, one of Britain’s finest composers, wrote a ravishingly buoyant score that is conducted by Oleg Caetani, while the distinguished director Ian Judge brings an idyllic portrait of early 20th-century England to the stage. An exemplary British cast, led by the irrepressible Andrew Shore in the title role, adds to the promise of an enchanting and lively evening of music and theatre.
