London, 7th February - 1st March 2008 SIMON GALES was born in 1964. He studied at Ipswich School of Art followed by Goldsmiths College, London where he was a top student graduating with first class honours. In 1988, Gales was selected as one of 25 young contemporary artists to take part in an unprecedented and highly publicised sale at Christies where his work fetched up to four times the estimate. Since then his work has sold at subsequent modern art auctions at Christies and toured in Arts Council exhibitions nationwide. His paintings, imbued with intrigue and ambiguity, are beautifully crafted and technically superb. They are weighty psychological works that prompt questions with their hidden allusions and secret references. Gales guides us in part with explanatory narrative which provides some insight into the metaphysical context. However, in the final analysis the viewer must seek their own interpretation and satisfy their instinctive emotional response toward this tour de force of painting. He has exhibited internationally and his works hang in collections in many countries across the world including the London Underground Museum and The Robert Holmes A. Court Collection in Perth, Australia. Gales’ solo exhibitions, although few, have swiftly sold out and he has featured in national newspapers, television and radio. ______________________________ Albemarle Gallery 49 Albemarle Street London W1S 4JR Tel : 0207 499 1616 Fax : 0207 499 1717 info@albemarlegallery.com www.albemarlegallery.com Opening hours: Monday-Friday 10-6 Saturday 10-4 |
