Osijek Graphic Arts Scene

Mali salon, Korzo 24, Rijeka Organisation: MMSU and Gallery of Fine Arts, Osijek The exhibition in Mali salon in Rijeka will present graphic arts scene of Osijek, featuring artworks by young artists, chosen by Jasminka Najcer Sabljak, curator at the Gallery of Fine Arts, Osijek. Presented young artists live and work in Osijek. Their common quality is extraordinary creativity and innovativeness in graphic media, which they combine with painting, drawing and photography. Graphic arts scene of Osijek is presented by: Mario Čaušić, Jelena Kovačević, Ines Matijević, Sabina Ostojić, Domagoj Sušac. Exhibition titled Osijek Graphic Arts Scene is a part of the exchange program between the Gallery of Fine Arts, Osijek and MMSU. Last year this program successfully presented young female graphic artists of Rijeka at the Gallery of Fine Arts in Osijek. The exhibition will remain opened until 2 March 2008. On the level of art speech there hasn’t been a homogeneours graphic scene in Osijek so far which would result in joint exhibition projects, connecting local and non-local graphic moments through actions and educating younger generations. However, for some years past, through presence and activity of young graphic artists, founding the Academy of Arts with graphic arts department and outfitting of graphic workshop of HDLU (Croatian Association of Artists), for the first time Osijek got a possibility, potential and impulse to receive graphic as a technically demanding, and increasingly present medium. The purpose of this exhibition is to reveal the graphic juncture of Osijek, the state of graphic achievements and transformation of graphic medium in environment being on the fringe of graphic developments only by its locus, but having potential present in the national, and broader, field of graphic arts.
