Barcelona, 21.05.09 - 31.05.09 During the Festival LOOP’09, SENDA-espai 2NOU2 presents the artist MartÃn Sastre with his video Fiebre Forever, a remake of erotic cinema featuring Nacho Vidal and Alaska. Fiebre Forever (2007) by the Uruguayan artist MartÃn Sastre is a homage to the mythical, prohibited film Fiebre (Argentina, 1978) directed by Armando Bo and starred by Isabel Sarli, a diva of Argentinean erotic cinema of the 1960s and 1970s. Known as “la Cocaâ€, Isabel Sarli (Entre RÃos, Argentina, 1935) began his career as model, was elected Miss Argentina in 1955, and together with the stage director Armando Bó, his partner both in fiction and in real life, she realized more than 30 films. In her long filmography of nearly two decades, Sarli represented women of ebullient eroticism, goes insane, controls, assaults, overbears and becomes overbeard by men. The films by the duo Sarli-Bó marked a new cinematographical epoch and had excepcional success not only in Latin America but also in unusual markets as USA, China or India. Because of its erotical content, they had disputes with the censorship of various governments and suffered repeated prohibitions and abbreviations. Due to a contract with Columbia Pictures, their films delighted various generations from all around the world. Prohibited by Franco in Spain, a lot of Spaniards travelled to the frontier with France in order to see the woman who was the first frontal nude in the history of cinema. Today her films form part of a unique category between the “porno-naive†and the kitsch, a formula which fascinated a whole generation of Spanish and International filmmakers, as Pedro Almodóvar, Quentin Tarantino or John Waters. Lustful arguments for men and women, Fiebre Forever (España, 2007, 18 min) is a re-lecture which repeats some sequences of Fiebre, one of the most famous films by the Argentinean duo, in which Sarli interprets the wife of a rich landlord who forces his concubines to animalistic desires which she herself experiments as her real love, a racehorse named Fiebre. In his remake, Sastre parodies the reverie and the artificiality of the original film with the interpretations by the two popular idols, the singer Alaska and the porno star Nacho Vidal. Fiebre Forever is a homage to the erotic cinema but it is also a way to comment on the unreasonableness of the censorship. MartÃn Sastre (Montevideo, 1976) is recognized as one of the most influential Latin American artists of his generation. He has been showing solo internationally since 2002 and has participated in Biennials such as National Representation in the Korea Bienal (2008), Usuahia (2007) and Bienal de l’Image in Geneva (2006), Venice (2005), Sao Paulo Bienal (2004), La Habana (2003), Praga (2002) y Mercosur (2001). In 2004 he was awarded the ARCO Prize at the Madrid International Art Fair and 2008 the Faena Prize for an urban intervention in Buenos Aires, Argentina. ______________________ galeria SENDA Consell de Cent, 337 E-08007 Barcelona T 0034. 934. 876 759 F 0034. 934. 882 199 www.galeriasenda.com |
