Serbian actor Predrag Miki Manojlovic is among candidates for the European Film Academy’s award for the best actor, for his role of sex shop owner in "Irina Palm", directed by Sam Garbarski, while his partner in this film Marianne Faithfull is nominated for best actress. EFA has handed out six nominations to "The Queen" and five to "The Last King of Scotland" for its 20th annual awards ceremony on December 1 in Berlin. The Oscar-winning pair will compete for best film at the European Film Awards, along with the Romanian Cannes Palme d'Or winner "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days", the Edith Piaf biopic "La Vie en Rose" and the French cartoon adaptation "Persepolis". Among nominated for best actor are Ben Whishaw as "Perfume's" super-scented serial killer goes, James McAvoy, playing Idi Amin's physician in "Last King of Scotland", Sasson Gabai as a small-town Israeli bemused by a lost Egyptian military band in "Band's Visit", Elio Germano growing up to a life of crime in "My Brother Is an Only Child" and French veteran Michel Piccoli in Manoel de Oliveira's "Belle Toujours", a sort-of sequel to Louis Bunuel's 1967 classic "Belle de jour". Famous singer Marianne Faithfull is nominated for best actress along with Oscar-winner Helen Mirren for "The Queen", as well as Marion Cotillard's for her stunning transformation into Edith Piaf in "La Vie en Rose" and Anamaria Marinca's portrayal of desperation in "4 Months" as a woman trying to get an illegal abortion in communist Romania. Among the nominees is Dejan Pejovic for the music from the film “Guca”, directed by Dusan Milic from Serbia. Manojlovic said to Belgrade daily “Blic” that he is glad that this award exists, but doesn’t expect much and doesn’t have ambitions in that respect. “As far as the roles are concerned, they are my relation to the world and they are the result of what I really am. The roles are not my means of subsistence, but the way of thinking and living”, said Manojlovic, who will not be present in Berlin, because of the shooting of his new film in Hong Kong. ____________________________ www.europeanfilmacademy.org |
