English National Opera's production of Madam Butterfly opened on 5 November at the London Coliseum, marking the opera directorial debut of Oscar-winning director Anthony Minghella.

In a major operatic first, Anthony Minghella presents a simply stunning new production of Puccini’s tragic Madam Butterfly. Critically lauded conductor David Parry and an exceptional artistic team, drawn from the worlds of opera and film, collaborate on this landmark staging, starring an impressive British cast – including Mary Plazas, Gwyn Hughes Jones, Christopher Purves and Jean Rigby. Exposing the work’s exquisite music and heartbreaking drama, Minghella’s visually captivating Madam Butterfly promises a rare evening of pure emotion

Madam Butterfly is in repertory for 12 performances until December 13th: November 05, 09, 11, 15, 18, 23, 25 and 30; December 02, 07, 09 and 13.

On Friday 16th December there will be a Royal Gala Performance of Madam Butterfly in the presence of TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall in aid of The Prince's Trust and the ENO Young Singers Programme.

English National Opera's production of Madam Butterfly is a co-production with the Metropolitan Opera (New York) and Lithuanian National Opera.
