Mokra Gora, 14 – 21 January




Organized by Rasta International and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, the first international Küstendorf Film Festival will be held from January 14 to 21, 2008 in Drvengrad, Mokra Gora, Serbia.

The festival’s founder, director, and programme selector is renowned filmmaker Emir Kusturica.

Dedicated to great contemporary auteurs and future filmmakers, Küstendorf Film Festival will in its first year consists of five programme segments, five festival selections:

COMPETITION PROGRAMME – Film school students from 12 countries – the Cuba, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Spain, United Kingdom and USA,– will be competing for the newly-established Golden, Silver and Bronze Egg awards.

RETROSPECTIVE OF GREATNESS – This year’s retrospective is dedicated to one of today’s most important filmmakers, Nikita Mikhalkov. The program will present four of his works: Slave of Love (1975), Unfinished Piece for Mechanical Piano (1976), A Few Days in the Life of I.I. Oblomov (1979), and his latest , 12 (2007).

RETROSPECTIVE - RUSSIAN FILM will present short and graduate films of famous Russian directors: Andrei Tarkovsky, Andrei Konchalovsky and Nikita Mikhalkov.

CONTEMPORARY TRENDS will present some of last year’s best releases. Following the screenings, the authors and actors will hold daily workshops with students from film schools and academies. The speakers include German director Fatih Akin, who will present his latest film The Edge of Heaven, director Cristian Mungiu from Romania, with 4 Moons, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Israeli director Eran Kolirin, presenting his newest work The Band’s Visit, Romanian actor Razvan Vasilesku, who will speak on California Dreamin’, and Emir Kusturica, presenting Promise Me This, among many others.

EVERGREEN will remind us of one of the best films from the 1990s – Michael Radford’s Il Postino. Also, the part of this programme segment will be Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s. The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulain (2001).

Küstendorf Film Festival will be opened by Nikita Mihalkov and his film 12.

Aside from the above-mentioned filmmakers and actors, the Festival will host film school students from across the world, as well as other prominent guests from the film industry.

After the screenings and workshops, various music bands will perform every night.
