Leioa Etnika, the art-project and band that created a revolution in Maltese roots music will be travelling to Leioa, Viscaya in the Basque region of Spain for a performance organised by Barranco Promocionnes on Friday 28 September. This will be Etnika’s fourth trip to Spain after having toured Barcelona, Seville and Leon in recent years. Etnika will be presenting its new show Karavan Petlor to an international audience in Leoa’s brand new Audiroium Kultur Leoa. Recently premiered with the Malta Arts festival 2007, Karavan Petlor is an up-beat show and a fresh approach to folk tradition. Etnika infuses its traditional based music with cool island grooves, dance culture and ska. Their latest repertoire is forged on traditional instruments; groovy sounds and riotous tambourines, gutsy folk cries, stomping feet and body percussion. Etnika will also make appearance at the Notte Bianca on the 6th October 2007 at 0030h in St. George Square, Valletta. The performance will be a high-energy show of new-generation verve, with a sassy entourage of over 20 collaborating guests, an audio-visual feast, and a must-see on this year’s cultural calendar. The band has been creating a stir in over fifteen countries including the famed Montreux Jazz Festival and has been locally and internationally acclaimed for their originality in musical innovation. ‘..some of the most interesting and challenging music you are likely to hear on this earth-like world..’ Jim Foley – Rootsworld.com Produced by Andrew Alamango, Francesca Grima, Andrej Vujicic. www.etnika.com.mt www.myspace.com/etnikafe |
