October 25 - December 6, 2007 Born in 1975 in Ankara, Damla Tokcan Faro started studying photography while doing her MA in Art Administration at the School of Art Institute of Chicago. She continued her photography education at the Chicago Photography Center. Faro met with the Turkish art viewers for the first time at Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair in 2006. She lives and works in London. Her photographs come to life through an interaction of the fairytales of our childhood and the realities of the present day. In the second series of “Gatecrashers†Damla, again, plays with light, 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional objects and brings together our present environment with her fairy friends. The series entitled Peek-a-boo, on the other hand, looks into the micro-cosmos of the flora around us to highlight the extraordinary details of the plants and magical characters that might surround them. There is a new series that Damla has developed using digital composite photography, where she takes many photographs of the same place and brings all of them together in the computer environment. These large scale photgraphs will take the viewers’ eye through the little differences of the surroundings with the change of time and space. The exhibition also presents an installation by Faro which accommodates a safe haven for her miniature friends. ______________________________ artSumer Gallery 1.cadde (Arnavutköy-Bebek cad.)
