The 3rd Tallinn Illustration Triennial "The Power of Pictures"

Latvian artist Anete Melece received the Best Illustrator Diploma at the Tallinn Illustration Triennial for her illustrations for the book "Nepareizas dzīves skola" ("Wrong Life School") by author Maira Dobele, published at "Liels un mazs" publishing house in 2008.

The 3rd Tallinn Illustration Triennial "The Power of Pictures" takes place at the Estonian National Library from November 3 through November 30, with 65 artists participating, of which around one third are representatives of Estonia. Other participating Baltic Sea Region countries: Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway and Russia, are each represented at the event by five artists.

Latvian artists whose works are on display at the Tallinn Illustration Triennial this year are Ilze Dambe, Anita Paegle, Juris Petraškevičs, Reinis Pētersons and Anete Melece.

The Latvian artist Anete Melece, who now resides in Switzerland, was awarded one out of ten "Best Artist" diplomas at the event.

The Triennial's main prize, sculpture "Muse" and EUR 1,000 money prize went to the Russian artist Varvara Alyai.

The jury was headed by illustrator Lilian Broegger (Denmark); the members were Estonian Arts Museum representative Juta Kivimäe (Estonia), art scientist Austra Avotina (Latvia), illustrator Hannu Taina (Finland), graphic design artist Jokubas Jacovskis (Lithuania), and poet Vera Pavlova (Russia).
