Ankara, 08.02.2008 - 18.03.2008 Ankara Galeri Nev continues the 2008 season with the personal exhibition of Albert Bitran. Nev, who showed the works of Bitran in Turkey for the first time in 1998, is now organizing a retrospective that brings together the milestones of his artistic career of over fifty years. Born in Istanbul in 1929, Albert Bitran traveled to Paris at the age of twenty to study architecture. There, he met with the actors of the “École de Paris” that had left its mark, particularly with its international identity, on the city’s artistic milieu after the World War II. Soon, under the influence of these artists who had based their aesthetic research on color and geometry, Bitran distanced himself from studying architecture and turned towards abstract painting. He opened his first exhibition in Paris in 1951; in the years to follow, along with Nejad Devrim and Mübin Orhon, he participated to the Independent Salons - the magnificent shows of the history of abstract art. As of 1956, he was represented at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, and soon after, at the Centre Pompidou. In later years, his works were included among the collections of American, British, Danish, Dutch, Austrian, Norwegian, Swedish and Cuban museums. Bitran, who continued opening his personal exhibitions in Paris, New York and Copenhagen, was also invited to take part in several group shows organized around the theme of “École de Paris”. Among these, the exhibition entitled “L’Envolée Lyrique: Paris 1945-1956”, held at the Luxembourg Museum in Paris, draw particular attention due to its emphasis on lyricism. Bitran participated in this show with his canvas entitled “The Birth of a Landscape”. Sketches of the same canvas are today in display at santralistanbul – the contemporary arts center of Istanbul. ___________________________ Galeri Nev Ankara gezegen sokak 5 gaziosmanpaşa 06700, ankara Turkey TEL : (312) 437 93 90 ankara@galerinev.com www.galerinev.com |
