ARTscape is a large-scale project that involves contemporary art, cinema and jazz, co-organized by some of the most qualified cultural institutions: “Kino pavasaris”, “Vilnius jazz” and Gallery “Vartai”. Throughout the year 2009 and in the beginning of 2010 these three experienced institutions will be presenting the contemporary culture scenes of twelve European countries, the cities of which are, were, or will become European capitals of culture. The three different media – art, cinema and music – will outline the diagrams of dynamic cultural processes.

ARTscape will represent most influential contemporary artists, directors and jazz performers from Finland, Estonia, Austria, Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain, Hungary, Belgium, Italy and France.

FINLAND 14 Januray – 14 February

Eemil Karila (b 1978) tries to bring out visually imperceptible public phenomena,he creates unreal ads,immigrants` chorus or museum cleaners turned into painters.Finnish artist tries to look at his creation through objective perspective to daily life and governing stuctures invisible to us.

Aurora Reinhard’s (b 1975) creation is composed of photography,video,performances,and objects.The most important themes of her work is sex ,sexuality and its representation
and different taboos.Due to their efficacy, these works have already conquered
the halls of Ludvig Museum (Keln) and Fridercianami (Kasel).

LITHUANIA

Jurga Barilaitė (b. 1972) in 1990 – 1996 studied in Vilnius Academy of Art, Painting Department. Her video works distinguish for their performativity and disclosure of femininity construction’s strategies. For this she uses her own body which possibilities and messages sent vary among eroticism, aggression, sentimentality and irony.
