bâlelatina is a curated contemporary art fair showcasing international galleries exhibiting artists, who for the most part, will preview for the first time in the European art market, and whose artistic language engages a dialogue on Latin art. The fair will include drawing, painting, sculpture, video, animation, interior and exterior installations and performance art. bâlelatina takes place in the city of Basel, in the building of the Brasilea Foundation Westquaistrasse 39, Dreiländereck CH-4054 Basel bâlelatina 2007 will take place from June 13th to June 17th, 2007 bâlelatina wants to establish a cultural and commercial field where the most outstanding collectors, curators, journalists and public will meet to enjoy and evaluate the best Latin Art. The Selection Committee and the curatorial adviser for this edition, Osvaldo Sánchez, have devoted every means in choosing the thirty nine (39) participating galleries. Latin American galleries from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela; European galleries from Spain, France, Italy and Portugal along with some German and Swiss galleries compose the cast for this year. The Videobox program will present videos by galleries such as GalerÃa Casadosantapau, Madrid, and Hardcore Art Contemporary Space, Miami. SPECIALS PROJECTS: Martin & Sicilia Los VIgilantes, 2007 Site specific work The site specific, Los Vigilantes (The watchmen), consists in a group between 8 and 10 different persons of different ages, dressed with bathing suits, looking in different directions, with binoculars and without and specific target. The directions that respond to the theoretical contain of the Los Vigilantes site specific are: With it, we plan to make an image that presents some bathers keeping watch of the coast. So, we suggest the citizen image that uses his leisure time in taking care of the beach invasion, not enjoying them anymore... Raymundo Sesma Campo Expandido VII*, 2007 Site Specific Work The title of this work is Campo Expandido VII (Expanded Field VII) consists in a site specific included in the urban landscape. It presents the idea of scale and the concept of public work. Campo Expandido VII starts from the codification text of the sociologist and poet Eligio Calderón, who relates the “crane structure†with intervention: to load, to unload, journey from place to place, from continent to continent. Crane as a globalization metaphor, about what gets in and out, about the free transition, the market and the movement idea.
